What does oregano oil contain?
Oregano oil contains phenols: thymol, carvacrol and terpenes – constituting natural antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral and antiparasitic agents.
That is why, oregano oil is an effective weapon in the fight against:
- fungi: Candida albican, Aspergillus.
- bacteria (even those resistant to antibiotics): Staphylococcus aureus , Campylobacter jejuni (causing an acute inflammation of the stomach and intestines), E. Coli, Salmonella, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Listeria.
- viruses: Coxsackie.
- parasites: Giardia lamblia, Trypanosoma cruzi.
Additionally, oregano oil constitutes a rich source of antioxidants (> 75 mmol / 100 g) such as:
- rosmarinic acid – an antioxidant fighting free radicals, helping in treatment of asthma, preventing neoplasmic lesions and atherosclerosis. An antihistamine.
- flavonoids– which have a relaxing effect on smooth muscles, with worth to mention naringin inhibiting tumour cells growth
- vitamins A, C, E, K and B3 (niacin)
- beta-caryophyllene (E-BCP) – the substance inhibiting inflammations, used in treating osteoporosis and sclerosis
- calcium, magnesium, zinc, iron, potassium, copper, manganese, boron.
Oregano oil turns out to be very effective in combating many serious illnesses, including, among others:
- foot and nail mycoses;
- sinus infections, colds and coughing;
- urinary tract infections caused by bacteria, such as: E. coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa;
- respiratory infections caused by bacteria: Klebsiella pneumoniae and Staphylococcus aureus;
- yeast infections, including those that are resistant to commonly used antifungal medications such as for instance: Diflucan;
- parasite infections caused by: Giardia lamblia (its effectiveness has been reported to be even stronger than antibiotics such as for instance: Tinidazol);
- Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA ) infections (Oregano oil has so strong antibacterial properties that it is able to kill metycylin+ resistant Staphylococcus aureus !)
- Food poisoning caused by bacteria such as: Listeria, Salmonella, E. coli and Shigella dysenteriae. Not only does oregano oil kill those bacteria but it also alleviates food poisoning symptoms;
- in Vitro tests, oregano oil even, in slight concentrations, kills 99% of breast, cervical, lung and colorectal cancer cells depriving them of glutathione (an antioxidant). Thanks to the above mentioned, they become vulnerable to an oxidative process causing their death.
Additionally, oregano oil:
- strengthens the immune system;
- has a sedative effect;
- lowers blood pressure;
- alleviates bites and spots;
- turn out to be helpful in treating asthma;
- keeps the microbiological balance of the organism;
- cures herpes, dandruff and other skin diseases such as, rosacea, warts, boils;
- has a positive influence on digestive processes (increases the production of saliva, gastric juices and bile);
- as a strong antioxidant fights free radicals and inhibits ageing processes;
- cleanses the body of toxins (enhances kidney functions);
- improves iron absorption;
- relieves sore throat pain, toothaches;
- has relaxant and antispasmodic effects;
- relieves pains of muscles and joints in case of rheumatoid arthritis (RA); has expectorant properties;
- stimulates bone growth and helps preserve their density (effective in osteoporosis therapy);
- alleviates menstrual pains;
- has an anti-oxidizing effect (may be successfully used to preserve food articles).
